What mobile technology should i take to eastern europe?

I am going primarily to Hungary. I would like to be able to either talk or chat to my family back home (north america) and surf the web and possibly watch videos if im bored. I am not really up on all the new technology so i need advice on what my options are for staying connected. I am pretty sure there won't be wifi where i am staying, maybe only at internet cafes. I would like to be connected more frequently than that though if its possible. Thanks for the suggestions!

first of all Hungary is situated in Central Europe, Eastern Europe starts at the Ukrainian Western border. secondly, that region is considered to be, according to the most recent studies ( http://mashable.com/2010/01/16/united-states-internet-speed/ )in top of the Internet technology and speed. You're not going to the end of the world, but in a region which has a better Internet connection than North America. I'm pretty sure that if you choose the roaming feature of your phone or if you buy a new phone in there, you'll be able to communicate with your family anytime you want.
