Technology

What technology do we use to study evolution?

Also, how has this technology developed over time and how does it effect people's lives? Thanks.

  1. We don't need any technology to observe evolution as natural selection has been responsible for major speciation on human timescales. Look at domesticated animals (like wolves vs dogs, wild cats vs housecats, livestock vs their wild counterparts, etc). Evolution has been observed in microorganisms, such as bacteria. So I suppose microscopes? That and DNA analysis.
  2. geologically speaking, we use the fossil record. in combination with the fossil record, we may use stratigraphic analysis, possibly carbon dating, ice core samples, etc. It depnds on whether you are studying macroevolution or microevolution. sorry to be so vague...but it really depends on why you are studying evolution in the first place, hope i helped somewhat at least.
