What technology should I learn to make myself more marketable?

I am in college, and majoring in Economics. I am close to graduating, but I know that I do not want a job in Economics. My brother is majoring in Management Information Technology, and is telling me that I should learn some up and coming technology on my own time to make myself more marketable to potential employers. But...I have no idea where to even start. Anyone have some ideas?

1. there were many fields in a technology world, you can learn programing language, data structure and so forth if you want to be a programmer, or you can go with Cisco, Microsoft certificate if you want to be a system administrator....etc hope it would help.
